STRIKER Alex Ng’onga has been named in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Chipolopolo final squad while Nkana’s Ronald “Sate Sate” Kampamba has been dropped.
According to a final 23-man squad unveiled yesterday by FAZ secretariat ahead of the CHAN tournament which kicks-off on January 13 in Morocco , national team head coach Wedson Nyirenda has kept his faith in Ng’onga, defenders Simon Silwimba, Fackson Kapumbu and Augustine Mulenga.
Those left out are Red Arrows striker Lubinda Mundia, goalkeeper Kenny Mumba, Jimmy Nakena, Kampamba, Solomon Sakala and Gamphani Lungu of National Assembly.
He will carry five strikers to Morocco in Ng’onga, Friday Samu (Green Buffaloes), Martin Phiri (Zanaco), Lazarous Kambole (Zesco United) and Chanda Mushili (Lumwana Radiants).
Kampamba who was impressive for Nkana last season seemed not to have ticked during training.
Meanwhile, Nyirenda kept goalkeepers Moses Mapulanga, Toaster Nsabata and Allan Chibwe.
The Chipolopolo mentor last Wednesday said the team’s target was to win the championship.
“We are going to Morocco to win the title and nothing else. The team is almost ready and in high spirits,” he said.
Zambia is in Group B with Ivory Coast, Uganda and Namibia.
The tournament will run from January 13 to February 4 and the team is expected to leave for Morocco tomorrow.
