DUDUMWEZI is among areas that will benefit from the programme of installing communication towers that is scheduled to commence soon, Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale has said.
Dr Hamukale said once the communication towers are installed, the problem of no network in the area would be eased and more people would have access to mobile phones.
Dr Hamukale said the PF government would ensure that all the people across the country had access to Information and Communication Technologies (ITCs) infrastructure.
“People in Dudumwezi and in surrounding areas will have access to network once the installation of the communication towers is done, because they had no access to mobile networks for years,” said Dr Hamukale.
And UPND Dudumwezi Member of Parliament Edgar Sing’ombe, said putting up more telecommunication towers will ease communication among health care providers at clinics and hospitals.
Mr Sing’ombe said health workers face challenges to communicate in case of any emergency when calling for an ambulance. He said people in his constituency were also happy with the PF government for embarking on the upgrading of the road leading to the area to bituminous standard.
He said there was an urgent need from the government to quickly work on a bridge on the Bbilli Road which was collapsing and the Chikanta-Kalomo central road was in a deplorable state and posed a danger to both motorists and the pedestrians.
“Right now, we have a challenge for someone to make a phone call to the hospital for an ambulance or to the police for assistance, you have to struggle looking for the network especially on ant-hills.
So we will be glad if we are considered since the pronouncement by the ministry of Transport and Communication that it would be putting up communication towers across the country,” said Mr Sing’ombe.
