He said Zambian athletes have the potential to mint gold during the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
“It is gratifying that athletes who are part of the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge are showing motivating sporting skills which I never expected to see.
“There is impressive talent in the young athletes who have continued to be nurtured through the Teulings league games,” Teuling said.
And Krayenhoff Teuling, wife of the sports challenge sponsor, commended the participation of girls in sports.
Krayenhoff noted that the number of girls in different sports disciplines was impressive, adding that the joy on their faces showed an enormous opportunity to develop their skills.
She disclosed that some athletes identified during the couple’s visit will be rewarded with a Teulings Academy support or sponsorship.
“Some individual athletes from other sports codes that have been identified to have exceptional talent have been drafted in the Teulings Academys or sponsorship programme where they will be supported with, among othe, accommodation and meals in camp, medicals, transport and school support,” Krayenhoff said.
Meanwhile, OYDC director Clement Chileshe commended the Teuling family for contributing to the development of sports in Zambia.
Chileshe said the centre has produced a lot of athletes who have represented the country at international level through the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.
“In the six years that the Teulings leagues have been successfully hosted at the centre, we have produced a number of athletes who have represented the country at international level.
Prosper Chiluya (football), Loveness Mudenda (hockey), Sydney Siame (athletics), Daniel Mbewe (athletics), Choolwe Hamalambo (table tennis) and Hazembe Chindamba (athletics) are among some of the athletes who have greatly benefited from the Teulings Academy sponsorship,” Chileshe said.
